Terms of Service

Last updated August 14, 2026

Agreement

These terms govern your use of the Butler Line website and service. By using either, you agree to them. If you are agreeing on behalf of a business, you confirm you are authorized to bind it.

What the service is

Butler Line answers inbound telephone calls on your behalf using an automated receptionist, and may book appointments, take messages, answer questions, and escalate calls according to the rules you configure. It is an automated system. It is not a licensed professional of any kind and does not give medical, legal, financial, or engineering advice.

Your responsibilities

  • Provide accurate information about your business, hours, pricing, and escalation rules — the service is only as correct as its configuration.
  • Ensure your greeting and recording disclosures comply with the law where you and your callers are located. Recording consent rules vary by state and several require all parties to consent.
  • Only forward numbers you control and are authorized to forward.
  • Review escalation rules for anything safety-critical. Do not rely on Butler Line as the sole path for a genuine emergency.

Acceptable use

You may not use Butler Line to:

  • Place outbound marketing, sales, or robocalls. It answers only.
  • Impersonate a person, or represent the service as a human being.
  • Handle emergency dispatch in place of a public emergency number.
  • Break any law, including telemarketing and recording statutes.

We will suspend an account that does any of these, and we would rather say so plainly here than discover it later.

Demo calls

Requesting a demo call authorizes us to place a single automated call to the number you submit. Only submit a number you own or have permission to use. We rate limit this feature and will refuse requests that look like harassment or toll fraud.

Fees

Plans are billed monthly in advance. Calls beyond your allowance are billed at the overage rate shown on our pricing page. You may cancel at any time, effective at the end of the current billing period. We don't refund partial months, and we don't hold your phone number — you keep it and can un-forward it at will.

Availability

We work hard to keep the line up and we don't promise perfection. The service is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. Carrier outages, upstream failures, and force majeure events happen and are outside our control. Configure a fallback for anything you cannot afford to miss.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the fees you paid us in the three months before the claim arose. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including lost business or lost profits from a call that was mishandled or missed.

Termination

You may cancel at any time. We may suspend or terminate an account for breach of these terms, non-payment, or use that puts our carriers or other customers at risk. On termination we delete call data according to the retention periods in our privacy policy.

Changes

We may update these terms and will post changes here with a new date. Material changes are emailed to customers before taking effect.
